Is America behind China’s recent protests? Part II

While the Chinese authorities have not directly commented on the rallies, they have repeatedly warned that "foreign forces" are a threat to national security as they have interfered in the Hong Kong democracy protests.

Is America behind China’s recent protests? Part II

TOPSHOT - Protesters march along a street during a rally for the victims of a deadly fire as well as a protest against China's harsh Covid-19 restrictions in Beijing on November 28, 2022. - A deadly fire on November 24, 2022 in Urumqi, the capital of northwest China's Xinjiang region, has become a fresh catalyst for public anger, with many blaming Covid lockdowns for hampering rescue efforts, as hundreds of people took to the streets in China's major cities on November 27, 2022 to protest against the country's zero-Covid policy in a rare outpouring of public anger against the state. Human Lives Human Rights: Recently, there have been rallies in China to protest against the Covid-19 restrictions. In these protests, the Chinese Communist Party and Xi Jinping were also targeted.

These protests are the largest expression of people’s dissatisfaction with Xi’s government since the beginning of his leadership.

Is America behind China’s recent protests?

In these demonstrations, which were held in the cities of Shanghai, Nanjing and Beijing by protesters against the government, people demanded the resignation of the president of this country, Xi Jinping.

In the meantime, one point is noteworthy. In pursuing its policy of turning to the east, the US government seeks to prevent China from gaining power in the East Asian region by any possible means and keep Beijing engaged in its internal crisis.

In the phase of its foreign policy and regional issues that Beijing is suffering from, America has put the following measures in its agenda in recent years:

1-Strengthening its relationship with Taiwan and trying to strengthen Taiwan’s position in the international community;

2- The significant increase of the American naval fleet in the South China Sea and the East Asian region;

3-Strengthening the American military bases in the Pacific Ocean;

4- Selling fifth generation F-35 fighters to Singapore, Japan and South Korea;

5- Selling F-18 fighter jets to Indonesia;

6- Holding exercises in the Taiwan Strait;

7- Nancy Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan, despite Beijing’s repeated warnings.

But in parallel with these actions, the US seeks to put pressure on Beijing in the domestic policy phase. For example, we can refer to the protests in Hong Kong in October 2019.

These protests took place before the Covid-19 pandemic; supported and accompanied by Washington and London. Now that the Covid-19 pandemic seems to have subsided significantly, it is very likely that the US government, freed from its corona worries, has once again started the crisis-making phase for Beijing’s domestic policy, like what happened in Hong Kong in October 2019.

What strengthens this theory is that Beijing has re-established corona restrictions and this situation is a good opportunity for the US government to satisfy the dissatisfied people of China, whose social capacity is saturated by the corona restrictions and political blockage of this country.
