Human Lives Human Rights: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak characterized Hamas’ operation as a severe blow to the notion of Israel being a secure haven for Jews.
Since British Foreign Minister Lord Balfour’s declaration 106 years ago recognizing the establishment of a Jewish state in Palestinian territories, Zionist propaganda, backed by Western supporters, consistently promoted the idea of Israel as a safe refuge for Jews worldwide. They actively sought to attract adherents of the Islamic faith to settle in Palestinian lands. Despite recent trends of reverse migration from the occupied territories and the desire of many Zionist settlers to return to their countries of origin, this narrative persisted.
To promote the concept of Israel as a secure homeland for Jews and encourage permanent immigration to the occupied territories, the Jerusalem occupying regime has extended dual Israeli citizenship to these individuals. Consequently, all Jews worldwide are granted Israeli citizenship unconditionally. Through Israeli embassy channels, they can migrate to the occupied territories and establish permanent residency by obtaining an Israeli passport.
However, the Palestinian resistance forces’ incursion deep into the occupied territories on October 7th dealt a resounding blow to this notion. Prior to this event, in all conflicts between Israel and Arab forces since 1948, including the 2006 33-day war, such a significant penetration into the depth of occupied territories had never occurred.
For instance, during the 33-day war and the 11th Saif al-Quds conflict, when the resistance front initiated missile assaults on the occupied territories, Zionist residents sought refuge in shelters, resulting in significantly fewer casualties. However, Al-Aqsa Storm marked a stark departure from previous operations in two key aspects: firstly, the Zionists were caught entirely off guard. Secondly, as per Isaac Herzog’s acknowledgment, the scale of casualties incurred was unparalleled since the Holocaust. Thirdly, the insecurity was manifest even in the heart of the occupied territories. The extent of the debacle for the Zionists is underscored by the complete failure of Israeli intelligence services to anticipate the looming threat. Ultimately, it must be conceded that the notion of a secure haven for Jews has been irreparably shattered and cannot be revived.
